Contemporary Art With a Side of Fried Chicken

There’s no denying that Los Angeles is a glamorous place. From the people to the attractions, this city has something for everyone. And the dining scene here is amazing.  Got 72 hours? Here’s a quick itinerary for a fun weekend:

Book a stay at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel. This hotel is conveniently located in DTLA, and has spa and dining options, as well as complimentary shuttle service within a 3-mile radius. Settle in and enjoy the views of downtown, then take a quick walk behind the hotel and ride the Angels Flight Railway to the Grand Central Market. The ride costs $1 and will leave you right across the street from the market. Inside you will find plenty of dining options, including one of our favs, Sticky Rice. The menu features organic locally sourced ingredients, and not to mention, the food is delicious! Order the Pad Kee Mao, a Thai classic, also known as the Drunken Noodle. And try the Crying Tiger, which is skirt steak and papaya salad. It also comes with a spicy jeaw sauce and a side of sticky rice. The portions were large so come hungry or ready to share.

Day 2: Head over to The Broad Museum, (a six-minute walk from the hotel) and enjoy some contemporary art. Admission is FREE and they feature weekly & monthly events worth checking out. Afterwards, head over to Simply Wholesome where you can grab a fresh juice and/or a bite to eat. The menu has everything from vegan/vegetarian options to BBQ chicken patties. You can also buy Black-owned products and books from this store that’s been a part of the community since the 1980s. In the evening, come for Happy Hour, stay for dinner at Perch. The restaurant is located on the 15th floor and is the perfect spot for watching the sunset from their rooftop patio seating. The inside ambiance is just as nice. This place gives off a French-inspired vibe with live music and vintage furnishings. Have a glass of wine, or order one of their Parisian inspired cocktails, to pair with the Fromage + Charcuterie Plate. The Wild Mushroom Risotto made with mascarpone and parmesan cheeses is a must-try.

Day 3: Fill your belly with something from Mama Por Dios. Dining here is an experience. There’s entertainment and the atmosphere is simply fun. The menu is extensive. There’s a little bit of everything, from enchiladas to fried lobster and lamb chops. They even have a $75 Gold Burger, featuring prime and crispy onions, garnished with 24K gold leaves. Later, make your way to Venice Beach. Take a stroll along the boardwalk, people watch, and make your way to the Santa Monica Pier. Ride the Ferris Wheel or just spend time by the ocean. And if you’ve never been to Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles, you need to make time during your visit and eat here. Roscoe’s has been around for years serving up crispy fried chicken daily. Decor is not what they’re known for so don’t expect to be wowed by decor. You’re coming for the food. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and reminiscent of a cozy meal your grandmother might have created. Chicken & Waffles are their staple but you're cheating yourself if don’t try any of the sides. As far as beverages, the Sunset Drink, which is a 50/50 mix of lemonade and fruit punch definitely should be added to your order.
